One example that comes to my mind is Patricia Highsmith's
Talented Mr. Ripley. I work at a bookstore, and Highsmith is
a consistant seller, but when that film came out it became a
bestseller in our store.
I also believe during the release of the film Modern Library
put out a hard covered edition of the first three Ripley
novels into one volume. That too sold extremely well.
