Searching around trying to discover James Atlee Phillips date
of death, I discovered that he has a son who has a cult
following as a singer/composer/musician. The son is Shawn
Phillips (born 1943) and has recorded 15 albums since the
60s. He did nine albums for the respected A&M label and
later recorded for RCA. I gather he was never a huge
commercial success but definitely has a following and is
still performing and recording.
Back in the 60s he played with Donovan and is credited
officially as the author of one of Donovan's recordings but
they fell out when Phillips claimed he co-wrote several
others, including "Sunshine Superman."
Maybe some of you out there are familiar with him. I'm not
but will be on the lookout for "The Best of Shawn Phillips,
the A&M Years."
