As usual, Richard Moore has come through with an insightful
and interesting take. There was one bit in the book about
MacDonald's relationship with the Deals that I enjoyed: the
$50 bet that JDM made with Deal that JDM could write a book
that would be published in hard back, sold to a book club,
and made into a movie. JDM wrote THE EXECUTIONERS and won the
bet, but Deal didn't want to pay off because the book was
only an "alternate selection" of the book club. The bio could
have done with more stories like that one.
