Sorry, no Lux on "The Big Sleep" DVD. But you get both
versions of the film.
You do get a Lux adaptation of "The Third Man" on the
Criterion DVD. You also get a reading of Graham Greene's
treatment and an episode of The Lives of Harry Lime, a radio
series starring Orson Welles. But the big deal here is the
movie itself. It's my favorite film. I've seen it a dozen
times or more and this stunningly beautiful, digitally
restored print is like seeing it for the first time.
The hero is the antithesis of hardboiled, but, if nothing
else, the ending should edge the movie into that category.
There's also a very interesting history of the movie, "In
Search of The Third Man," by biographer Charles Drazin
(Limelight).
