RARA-AVIS: Batter up!

I just ran into it again, in Ken Bruen's Taming the Alien, a London wideboy (that's the right term, right?) using a baseball bat as his tool of persuasion. I've noticed this in a number of recent Brit books. Do they now play baseball in the UK? If not, where are they all getting their baseball bats? What store stocks them, Villains R Us?
