interest. I am putting together an approved panel on the
figure of the Confidence Man in American fiction and film for
the Northeast MLA Association conference.

Reassessing the Confidence Man
This session aims to reread the
figure of the American confidence man. Possibilities may
include: Conjunctions between the confidence man and:
disruption and excess, class, landscapes, violence,
masculinities, nationality, performance, parody; The often
forgotten confidence woman; The Con-Artist; Classical film
representations of confidence players; The recent surge in
novels about confidence men and women.
Send detailed abstract (250-500 words) by September 15.
