Charles Willeford's old Florida drinking buddy was Leicester
Hemingway, Ernest's brother. When he died, Leicester left
behind tapes in which he describes his exploits, which may or
may not be true. But his daughter, Hilary, has put together a
book called HUNTING WITH HEMINGWAY, based on transcripts of
Leicester's tapes. Willeford was present when Leicester made
the tapes and offered contributions along the way, which
Hilary Hemingway reportedly has included in the book. His
comments range from "stuffy academics to the famous rat
fights of Mogadishu." I don't know how much Willeford is in
the book, but apparently there's some. HUNTING WITH HEMINGWAY
is supposed to be published by Riverhead Books on July
13.
