There's no question about Hemingway having read Hammett. In
"Death in the Afternoon," he writes: "My eyes were too bad to
read, and my wife was reading Dashiell Hammett's bloodiest to
date, The Dain Curse, out loud . .
.." As Bill Nolan, IMO the best of the Hammett biographers
points out in his
"Hammett: A Life On The Edge," a list of the books included
in Hemingway's library includes The Glass Key, The Thin Man
and Blood Money.
