> I recently read THE JONES MEN by Vern E. Smith that
was republished by
> Norton's "Old School Books" series in
1998
While I can't lay claim to having read the O.S.B. series, I
thought without a question the finest book from this series
was Charles Perry's PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG MAN DROWNING.
Poignant, frightening, fast-paced - and yes, even hardboiled
- made this terrific character study simply
outstanding.
And like THE JONES MEN, this was - due to tragic
circumstances - Perry's only novel. A shame.
