I've just read Jackson's Deadman and it certainly is a page
turner for a procedural. However, I followed it up with Les
Robert's 'Infinite number of Monkeys' and regard him as
somewhat superior in the Chandler mould. What struck me about
the latter were certain resemblances to Robert Crais's novels
(two P.I's as buddies, ex-vets etc) . Since Roberts is now
set in Detriot, I suppose the change of turf doesn't matter.
