No, the strength of the series to me is it presents a
familiar type character in a setting I know very little
about. I like it a lot better than his Tony Rome series
whiich has has Tony following rules I'm familiar with in a
place I know.
I'm not comparing Albert to them, but I read C S
Forester's Horatio Hornblower books and, of course Patrick
O'Brian's for the similar reasons. You are able to read and
learn of a world alien to you. Mark
