Tribe asked a lttle while back about Fred's crit of Chandler.
The two articles I've come across deal with Chandler in a
general sense. The most recent is in the aforemetioned
"Shades of Noir" anthology called
'The Synoptic Chandler'. Fred's conceptual density is a
little daunting but worth persevering with. The other has
appeared in various criticism but originally was in the
'Southern REview' 6:3 (1970): 624-50. titled simply 'On
Raymond Chandler'. It is more accessible rhetorically and the
cultural logic of late Chandlerism imho is well worth dipping
