About Chester Himes: Any of his novels, I think there were
seven, staring the two black Harlem detectives, are special.
To me, the key is Himes keeps to the story. Meaning, if he
throws in social content, it's not a stop off to
editorialize--the reader barely notices. And Himes must have
been a fun guy, because he sure did enjoy a good laugh.
