Blonde on the Street Corner or Cassidy's Girl, for instance.

How about How Late It Was, How Late by James Kelman?
Also, as mentioned, numerous life of the junkie books.
Although I can't think of any specific examples at the
moment, aren't there books about the lifestyle of crooks that
do not revolve around a particular crime, but the life in the
subculture? No Beast So Fierce by Edward Bunker (has anyone
read Education of a Felon, yet?) has a lot of crime, but is
not really about any one caper, for instance.
