As others have said, both MacDonalds and "Michael Collins"
are worth reading, sermonizing and all. And yeah, R.
MacDonald only wrote one story, and his causes are pretty
transparent (good sex and the environment=good; teenagers
finding their own way in life=good; child abuse and
murder=bad), but then again they're kind of hard to argue
with.
I also think Woolrich is worth reading across the board. I
know he's apt to rely on some pretty coincidental happenings,
but I, at least, find myself completely and utterly sucked
into his books while I'm reading them.
And, well, since you obviously don't have a lot invested in
"Poodle Springs", you might at least consider flinging it to
the floor and dancing on it. I would've done that when I read
it, but I didn't think the library would appreciate it.
