Big chunks of dialogue came verbatim from the book, and the
plot was essentially unaltered. I also agree about the acting
style, which was right out of 1954. Come to think of it, the
movie wouldn't have been out of place on a double feature in
1954.
The presence of Maury Chaykin -- in a film or television
programme -- is usually enough to get me to switch off my
reading lamp for a bit. I'm glad to hear others liked his
Nero Wolfe. Next to Sidney Greenstreet -- who alas was
unavailable -- I can't imagine a better choice for the
part.
