I can't remember whether or not I mentioned this
before...
Michael Mann wrote the screenplay for Heat and could not get
financing for it. When the TV movie deal came through, he
ripped out all the
'character' scenes and subplots from his script and made LA
Takedown. When the opportunity came for him to make a movie
out of Heat, he simply took his existing script and used
that. So LA Takedown was Heat-lite. Heat was not a padded LA
Takedown.
Useless fact: In Mann's Violent Streets/Thief, starring James
Caan, Mann cast many real-life/former cops (eg Dennis Farina)
as gangsters and vice versa.
