The Friends Of Eddie Coyle was GVH's first novel, and the
novels published directly after that retain the same style,
and concern themselves with the lowlife/working class
criminal:
Cogan's Trade The Digger's Game The Rat on Fire
After that, GVH's style and subject matter changed. He had a
sort-of series starring downtrodden lawyer Jerry Kennedy
(including Kennedy for the Defense, Penance for Jerry Kennedy
etc). The rest of his novels were mostly political, but they
still had a hard edge/sleazy/corrupt mentality. Probably his
best novel is A Choice Of Enemies.
