What really got me interested in hardboiled was Chester
Himes' series of satirical novels about a couple of rough and
tumble black NYPD cops in Harlem. That was in the early 60's,
when I was in the service. (I think--could have been a little
later)
I'm really enjoying Carl Hiassen's "Lucky You." And I'm hard
to please!
