I posted a list of pulp characters couple weeks ago and asked
the authors. There was a hero called Uncle Tubby. I found out
yesterday that he was a creation by Ray Cummings, who wrote
many science fiction and spicy mystery stories for the pulps
from the thirties to the fifties. Cummings wrote to my
knowledge some hardboiled stuff, but these Uncle Tubby
stories surely aren't HB - they are more or less
classical
(or cozy?) oriented stuff and Tubby is a deductive
investigator in the manner of Chesterton's Father Brown. Not
much to be considered by rara-avians. Or anybody else, if you
ask me.
