For what it's worth, I've never cared much for Burke's
writing. He always struck me as a guy overly intent on
becoming a Serious Writer. That's not necessarily bad, of
course, but he always seems to me to be overdoing it,
overstraining at the attempt. He reminds me of a batter who's
so intent on knocking one out of the park that he forgets
just to let the bat meet the ball, and ends up striking
out.
