Kevin, In the original book and movie Parker/Porter is totally humorless and always very competent. Mel Gibson plays him as something of a wiseguy and klutz His Porter is a variation of his Briggs in the LETHAL WEAPON films. There was no hint of romance in the original film after the suicide. In the books Parker had no desire for sex when on a job. I saw PAYBACK this winter so I've forgotten some of the details I found jarring, but there are several not in character. One I do recall is his managing to get slightly hit by a car. Would that have ever happened to Lee Marvin's Porter? Mark Blumenthal
