An extremely well written first novel -- CROSSROAD BLUES by Ace
Atkins,
published last Nov by SMP -- hinges on the mystery surrounding
the death of
real-life musical giant Robert Johnson, the murky circumstances
of which not
only cloak the event in a (rural) noir mantle, but are also
about as hard
boiled as it gets. The book is the first of a planned blues
trilogy, but the
protagonist, Nick Travers, has legs and may not disappear after
three books.
One can but hope.
