RARA-AVIS: Frank Kane

I recall Frank Kane's two Johnny Liddell short story
collections (JOHNNY
LIDDELL'S MORGUE, 1956, and STACKED DECK, 1961). Fairly
standard stuff. I think he wrote some stories for MANHUNT, and
looking
through my collection of sleazy digests from the 50's, I see
that some
appeared in the lowest-paying markets. (Those digests--KEYHOLE,
OFF
BEAT, SURE FIRE, GUILTY, TWO-FISTED, TRAPPED, and so on--paid
very
little, but they gave starts to writers who later became
important,
including Lawrence Block, Harlan Ellison, Ed Hoch, Clark Howard
and
others. Occasionally Frank Kane and others with a track record
showed up with stories which obviously they couldn't place
anywhere
else.)
