You're right. It works both ways. In 1971 0r 1972 Mac Donald
was a Newsweek
cover story. I think his newest book was the lead review of
the NY Times
around that time. He's largely forgotten today. Critic Edmond
Wilson
thoroughly panned Hammett in the '30's, and now Hammett is
studied in
colleges .
