I can't remember who started this chain but that won't stop me from
ante'ing up. I much enjoyed THE AXE. At the time I read it I was a
supervisor at an ad agency that specializes in recruitment. So my days
were spent strategizing on how we would attract the right candidates for
our clients. In the book, the main character does much the same by
writing an ad for his dream job and then offing the best of the
competition. I liked it. I've only read two Westlake novels and at the
time, the neatest of the plot coupled with the tongue in cheek style
reminded me of Stephen King. Now, I've only read two of King's books
(Thinner & Dolores Claiborne) and a comparison to King isn't generally
taken as a compliment (at least not in fancy schmancy lit circles),
still, that was my take on it.
