Re: RARA-AVIS: Crumley? Is that the name?

Thu, 10 Dec 1998 01:45:10 -0500 (EST) Yes, Crumley is his name, James Crumley. The book is actually titled
The Last Good Kiss (Long Kiss Goodnight was the Geena Davis movie),
wherein the detective C.W. Sughrue tracks down an author on a drunken
ramble. The book is great and comes with an alcoholic bullbog named
Fireball Roberts. It is probably my favorite private eye novel of the
post-Vietnam period.

Crumley's other detective is Milo Milodragovitch, who is featured in the
warm-up The Wrong Case, along with The Dancing Bear, which is nearly as
great as Last Good Kiss. After a long lay-off C.W. came back in Mexican
Tree Duck (with uncredited cameos by Milo tending bar) and the two are
together in Bordersnakes.

Before the mysteries, Crumley wrote a war novel called One to Count
Cadence and there have been several anthologies collecting short
stories, essays and works in progress. Crumley has also been working on
a "big novel" about Texas for just about his entire writing career.

You'll find many fans of Crumley's on this list, including me.

Mark
