Sun, 6 Dec 1998 12:25:54 -0500 (EST) I agree that Reed Diamond did a good job of acting the role last season,
I think it was the role that was stretched too thin, becoming just one
note played over and over (although given that I like minimalism in
music, I'm not quite sure why this bothered me). It may have been
because he was the first character to go soap opera in the show, with
the Day of Wine and Roses scenes with Michelle Forbes. And Homicide
started as a show where you knew next to nothing about the characters'
lives outside the job. Now it seems to be more about their lives than
the job, with the soap opera invading the working hours -- the
Falsone-Gaurdi relationship you mentioned and the Father-Son Girardello
stuff. I wish they would just return to case work. That is what made
the early show so great; of course, it didn't get the ratings then. So
instead it courts a bigger audience which it never really got while
risking losing its initial fans. Oh well, won't be the first time, or
the last.
