RARA-AVIS: Philip Atlee

Tue, 03 Nov 1998 08:46:44 -0600 The other day someone mentioned Philip Atlee as a good hardboiled spy novelist. I agree. THE GREEN WOUND (later retitledTHE GREEN WOUND CONTRACT) impressed me a lot when I first read it. It's the first Gold Medal novel about Joe Gall, but it's actually the second Gall book. The first is a third-person novel published by, I think, Dell. At any rate, Atlee was one of those guys who actually did visit all the locales he wrote about. There was a great interview with him in ESPIONAGE magazine some years ago.
