RARA-AVIS: So *that's* what 'ponce' means

Sat, 24 Oct 1998 15:27:42 -0700 I've been keeping my eye open, with no success until now, for Fred
Willard's _Down on Ponce_, because it's been discussed on the list in
quite favourable terms.

It's just arrived at Waterstones, Ipswich.
(Which is more than can be said for the so-called 'September' issue of
Crime Time. November's just around the corner and CT 2.2 is still
nowhere to be seen.)

Needless to say, I got it--paid for it too! Had a quick look at the
blurbs/first page in the shop. Terrific opening; also, I learned what
'ponce' means. (It has a quite different meaning over here).

Nice one Fred--I look forward to settling down with it some time soon.

Again, due to traffic on the list--mainly Pete Walker--I got (ie bought
& paid for) a copy of a Bary Gifford compilation, which includes _Wild
at Heart_ (Sailor & Lula). Brilliant stuff--very down-beat, very
low-key, until almost the very end--a screenplay in waiting.
