I was surprised when a friend who lives in New York told me
Alphabet
City had been gentrified. And Times Square might as well have
been
covered over it's so much like a suburban mall now. There are
still some
sex shops and such over by Port Authority, but even those will
probably
be gone soon, having lost their last appeal. It all started
with
Guliani getting rid of the squeegee guys. It just isn't the
same New
York when you feel totally safe wherever you are walking
around.
