My sentiments entirely. There seems to be a fair amount of
reinventing the
wheel going on on Rara-Avis, which is fine and dandy but also
suggests that
some people's substantive postings are being ignored while
others' are not.
For instance, you posted an interesting thread a while ago
about padding
novels, and I posted what I thought was a helpful response
about the changing
marketplace that a) pushes writers to write longer and b)
confines them to one
book a year--to which a fair amount of nonsense was posted
regarding the
meaning of "writing longer." I get ticked off by Denton
privately for
congratulating another member, told by him, again privately,
that "The Club
Dumas" is out of the question for the foreign-books month
because he didn't
like it (end of discussion),bombarded with outraged postings
when I suggested
there may be the "M" word lurking in our midst, including by
a woman who comes
out of the closet to complain.. Geeez! Then yesterday we get
our messages
sort of reiterated (flattery?), but without any mention of of
our original
contributions. Maybe we do need another place to post where
there is a true
exchange of information?
And as for Mark Sullivan's request that someone who knows
something about the
film business being able to answer his question, all I can
say is I asked
around, and I don't know when or even if "Lock,Stock, and Two
Smoking Barrels"
is opening in the U.S. Hope it does, so keep us posted.
Hanging on by a thread.

the Ripley
series)
