It is made up of several linked short stories about Lew Griffin's
dealings with a couple generations of a family he knows. It was quite
impressive, Sallis was particalrly good on character and had a distinct
authorial voice. Moth and Black Hornet were good, but I think they
suffered somewhat in comparison to the series debut. I haven't read
Sallis's recent spy book, but the one review I saw didn't think much of
it.

Sallis has also written Difficult Lives--Jim Thompson, David Goodis,
Chester Himes. The introduction tells about Sallis's gorging himself on
pulp fiction while living on the cheap in Paris. This is followed by a
long, informed essay on each of three of the authors he read.
