RARA-AVIS: Marlowe

I seem to recall (i was only 10 or 11) watching a series
on
HBO in the 80s called "Philip Marlowe, Private Eye". it
was
a pretty neat little series. Does anyone remember this
and
was it actually taken from short stories (or novels) or
just
written by screen writers? is there any way of getting my
dirty mitts on a copy or two?
