To defend my honor, I am out here laughing.
Actually, my own personal definition of a detective is one
who detects, and
in our genre the assumption is that one is detecting the
facts about a crime.
In my book, THE READERS GUIDE TO THE PRIVATE EYE NOVEL, I
have a personal
definition of a private eye. My definition is very
restrictive, and starts
with the premise that a private eye should be licensed to be
so. It then
goes on to make enough excuses to include just about everyone
who is not
licensed. So, that is why I am laughing about this definition
thread.
Best, GWN.
