RARA-AVIS: Glass Key pet peeve.

Tue, 14 Apr 1998 11:45:39 -0700 I just finished the Glass Key (last of the Hammett's for me)
and I liked it a lot but one problem with the writing style.

Almost every time he mentions the character Ned he writes
out Ned Beaumont. Like "Paul said to Ned Beaumont", "Then
Ned Beaumont got into the car." No "Then he got in the car"
or "Then Ned got in the car. " At first I thought it was
strange then it became really annoying. What's wrong with a
few pronouns here and there? I didn't notice it in any
other Hammett book but of course you never get the Op's name,
so...

I really had to force myself to look past that to enjoy the
book. Funny how the little things can sometimes really turn
you off.

Anyone else notice this?
