Recent books I have read in the past two months to get me
in
the mood:
The High Window - Chandler. Read it a bunch but I felt like
it again.
Sleeping Beauty, The Drowning Pool, and The Chill - Ross
Macdonald
The Continental Op, Red Harvest, and The Glass Key -
Hammett
Skin Deep, Blood Red - Skinner
I also got on video "Murder My Sweet" and "Double Indemnity."
I love
Murder. It is so much better then the later Farewell my
lovely.
My project involves Prohibition era speakeasy and gangster
locals and
scenarios. I am looking for good examples of this kind of
thing.
I have already checked out:
The Max Collins trio, "True Crime" etc.
Little Caesar. Both the book and movie.
I think all of the other Chandler, Hammett, MacDonald
stories.
Any suggestions? I would also like any example locals that
have that
sort of look such as old hotels, bars, etc. Preferably on the
West Coast.
There is a great old hotel in Barton Fink but it was a set.
Something like
that would be great.
Also any suggestions for classics that I have missed.
Thanks.
Jeff
