RARA-AVIS: The Drowning Pool

vacation flights and I came across a phrase I hadn't heard before --
perhaps one of our resident hardboiled jargon experts can help me out?

On page 126 (of the Vintage Crime edition) Archer says "Save it for
Wednesday night meeting" to one of Kilbourne's tough-guys. What is this a
reference to?
