RARA-AVIS: Concurring with Mario

I'm persuaded by Myshmysh's (what a Dostoevskian name)
argument
distinguishing postmodern fears from noir terrors. Moreover, I
want to
let Mario know that in spite of wide-ranging pressures to laud
it, I've
continued to LOATHE _Reservoir_Dogs_. My father's comment on
that movie
was "If you were to say it was beneath contempt, it would be
a
compliment," and I hold it in only slightly higher regard than
he does.
No originality, honesty, humanity, wit, understanding,
characterization,
or discrimination seem to have marred the pure worthlessness of
that
movie. Its popularity, particularly among academic/intellectual
types who
should have had exposure to better things, is unsettling. Maybe
there are
a lot of bloodthirsty cynics out there.
Yours,
Josh Lukin
