RARA-AVIS: Joel Cairo as Oscar Wilde

Frederick Zackel (fzackel@bgnet.bgsu.edu)
Tue, 25 Nov 1997 21:56:04 -0500 (EST) I don't have the Falcon in front of me, but Joel Cairo might be somehow
representative of a literary movement(?) of the turn of the century, that
"art for art's sake." Cairo wears the carnation and has the theatre
tickets; if I recall, Wilde (also the dandy) used the carnation as a
"secret badge of membership" among his band of similar thinking artists.

How far off am I?

Thanks

Frederick Zackel
