<<If one were doing research on stories published in
Black Mask, where
would
one go? That is, does any library have a complete set of the
original
Black Mask, either hard copy or microfilm/fiche? I have a
friend who
wants
to get ahold of the stories Chandler cannibalized for *Big
Sleep*, and
she's not having much luck turning them up. Thanks,
Michael.>>
Those stories were republished in a volume called "Killer in
the Rain";
it should not be hard to find, since it appeared on mass
paperback.
These stories are very interesting (personally, I find them
as good as
any that Chandler published). There is a particularly
memorable one
called "No crime in the mountains". Does anyone else agree
that
Chandler's stories are superior to his novels?
I don't know if any single library has a complete collection
of Black
Mask, but UCLA has a *very large* collection. Probably an
e-mail to the
special collections curator there will get you the
information you want.
