Donald Hamilton is a real person; he was born Donald Bentgsson Hamilton
in March 24, 1916, in Uppsala, Sweden. He immigrated to the US with his
parents in 1924. I think he's still alive and living in Santa Fe, New
Mexico. _The damagers_, his latest Matt Helm novel, was published by
Fawcett in 1993.

The Hamilton article in "Firsts" is particularly noteworthy because it
examines the early suspense and western titles Hamilton wrote before
Matt Helm monopolized his writing career. Great novels like _Night
walker_ and _Line of fire_ have been eclipsed by his later success,
which is really a shame.

One further word on the articles in "Firsts:" this is a magazine for
book collectors, so if discussion of rarity and prices disturb you,
don't pick up this magazine.
