Dr. Sharp--
To answer your question: I have an idea, which may become a
thesis,
of discussing "The disposal of women in Fifties noir fiction."
Keene's
short story, "Nothing to Worry About," dealt marvelously with
that theme.
I thought he might have covered it elsewhere as well. Moreover,
I have to
display a thorough knowledge of the origins of the hard-boiled
genre by
August, as it's the topic of one of my prelims (or
Orals).
Other writers I'm using for the disposal-of-women topic
include
Spillane, Thompson, Highsmith, Phil Dick, and Fredric Brown.
Maybe
Shirley Jackson's _The_Bird's_Nest_. Recommendations
welcome.
Yours,
Josh Lukin
