i found a very interesting 'dossier' in the Liberation (french
newspaper) web
site about Hammett in Butte , Montana when he was sent as a
Pinkerton man to
break the IWW strike...which led him later to write the Red
Harvest...the
dossier has many connecting links of interest about "polar'
(french for noir
stories), about Montana and Butte in particular and the strikes
of that era
and the killing of leader Little in which Hammett is supposed
to have
participated...
