When I heard Ellroy speak back in February he had seen about
20 minutes
of the film and felt that it did do justice to his
characters. He said
that an earlier film of one of his books was done, but he
didn't like
that one. Sorry, can't remember book or film name.
Supposedly, "L.A. Confidential" was screened at Cannes, but I
could never
find any reviews or reaction to it at that time. It was due
for a May
release, but held until September so as not to compete with
the summer
"blockbusters."
