Paul Ulucci wondered who could carry on the mantle of Marlowe. Having read Robert Parker's sorry attempts, I would say any number of authors could do a damn sight better. To get an idea, Knopf has a collection of Marlowe short stories written by a number of well known writers, including our list's own Jeremiah Healy, as well as some odd choices like Paco Ignacio Taibo II and Eric Van Lustbader. Some of the authors acquit themselves and Marlowe rather well. The book is called RAYMOND CHANDLER'S PHILIP MARLOWE. A CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION. I recommend it. - # RARA-AVIS: To unsubscribe, say "unsubscribe rara-avis" # to majordomo@icomm.ca
