I've read just about all of his stuff. His early books THE TAKE and BAD GUYS are both pretty cool, but the closest he came to a masterpiece was THE PRIME ROLL. He wrote something like a book a year for about a decade. After awhile all his stuff starts sounding the same, but at his best he was being compared to Elmore Leonard. Had the opportunity to meet him once on a book tour. Charming guy who seemed genuinely tough and may or may not have known real wise guys. - # RARA-AVIS: To unsubscribe, say "unsubscribe rara-avis" # to majordomo@icomm.ca
