Ooooh! Graham Greene! One of my favorites. I don't think _Brighton Rock_ is particularly hardboiled, although the film version of it, starring Richard Attenborough as Pinkie, is both hardboiled and very noirish. As far as hardboiled, how about _This Gun for Hire_ (aka _A Gun for Sale_)? Or _The Ministry of Fear_, a great WWII spy story? _Orient Express_ might also fit this mold, as do most of his serious novels, in one way or another.
