Regarding Steve Miller's query, I have five Signet paperbacks of the Trace
series authored by Warren Murphy.

They are, in order of publication: (1.) TRACE; (2.) TRACE AND 47 MILES OF
ROPE; (3.) WHEN ELEPHANTS FORGET; (4.) ONCE A MUTT; (5.) GETTING UP
WITH FLEAS. 

The last-named title, published in 1987, won the Edgar for best paperback
original. I am unaware of any additional titles in the series. It has been a
decade or more since I read these books, but I remember them as exception-
ally good reads.
