> Robert Bloch is a fabulous writer, so fabulous that I'll read his > scifi/fantasy stuff (a genre I normally ignore). Robert Bloch, who died a year or two ago, was a fine writer. As a teenager, he corresponded with Lovecraft, and the two of them wrote each other into their stories. His early stuff was imitation Lovecraft for WEIRD TALES in the 30s, but very good for a-that. His best work may be the fantasy things of the early 40's like "The Skull of the Marquus de Sade" and "Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper"--both also for WEIRD TALES. He's best known for PSYCHO and similar works in which the horror, instead of being supernatural, is all too natural. See his autobiography, ONCE AROUND THE BLOCJ, and a recent anthology of commentary about Bloch and stories by him, ROBERT BLOCH--APPRECIATIONS, edited by Richard Matheson.
